Diablo 2 Runewords
Diablo 2 Runewords are items that had been created by socketing runes in specific combinations into socketed items.
These do look pretty much like an unique item but you are able to view the runes being socketed into by moving your mouse over the item.
There are a total of 78 Runewords within Diablo 2.

How to make Runewords
Generally to make a Runeword you need a base like a Body Armor, Helmet, Shield or Weapon.
Then you place Runes in a specific order into the base to create a Runeword.
To for example create the most famous Runeword, the ‘Enigma’ you need a 3 socketed item such as an Archon-Plate, Mage-Plate or Duskshroud.
Then you place the Runes ‘Jah’, ‘Ith’, ‘Ber’ in that combination into your socketed item to create the Runeword ‘Enigma’.
It gives you the main ability to Teleport with your Character that normally only Sorceress are able to.
